John Gunter was a white settler in the southern most region of the River Tennessee in the Alabama area. He found some salt deposits there and started trading this with the Cherokees nearby. He later married Ghi-go-ne-li of the Holly Clan and then was accepted by the Cherokee tribe. He opened a store and named it the Gunter’s Landing. This store then became so successful that the entire town began to be known as Gunter’s Landing.

This was a very important site till it was removed. In the year 1813, in the month of October, General Andrew Jackson came to fight with the Creeks. He enrolled one of John Gunter’s sons in the ensuing battle. Then Jackson asked to build a trail to Gunter’s Landing. This eased the transport of the military supplies to Nashville. Then sometime in the year 1820, there was a ferry service started by Gunter across the River Tennessee.

Then by the year 1835, Gunter enterprises started expanding and this is the time Gunter actually got a house built here and painted it and this came to be known as the “White House”. The following year Gunter died and his legacy continued.

Gunter’s Landing in Alabama is situated in a very prime location of the meeting point of the Ohio, Mississippi and the Tennessee. These rivers were the cause of the development of this area. Gunter’s Landing thus became a very important site in this region. This also became a point of departure for the Cherokees and the Creeks who were actually being ousted from their Alabama and Georgia homes. Thus this region became an important site on the Trail of Tears.

Come to this lovely locale and enjoy the vacation of a lifetime. Experience the challenges of playing mountain golf and seep in the beautiful views of the mountains that are seen merging with the Lake Guntersville. Surrounded by one of the most popular lake resort regions in this part of Alabama, the Appalachian mountain range just complements the enti re experience. Go up the walking trail here and enjoy the clay surface which makes you ask for more thrill and adventure.

Come to North America and enjoy the pleasures of being in the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail which is so much a part of travel experiences here in this region. A mastermind of Robert Trent Jones Sr. this spreads across the entire region of Alabama and is part of the Retirement Systems of Alabama. With around 378 holes in eight sites, today this park has around 468 holes spread across eleven sites.

Entirely executed by Dr.David Bronner, with the main idea of diversifying the states fund thus helping the Alabama state economically. It was believed that if the Retirement Systems of Alabama is made stronger then the state of Alabama could be made stronger.

Today there are two kinds of courses that have events on the LPGA tour. There is the Senator course which is at Capitol Hill hosts the Navistar LPGA Classic. Then you also have the Crossings course at the Magnolia Grove. This is the place where the Avnet LPGA classic is also found.

Bronner was encouraged to build this series of golf courses as he wanted a great golf destination here in this part of the world. This was in a way a Field of Dreams. Today there are at least thousands of golfers which have played in more than 10 courses in this Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Bronner felt that only Robert Trent Jones Sr. could be the best golf course architect and he in fact came out of semi retirement to start this project.

The course had only seven sites in the beginning. There was the Hampton Cove in the region of Huntsville and the Oxmoor Valley in the area of Birmingham, then in Anniston there was the Silver Lakes, and Opelika had the Grand National. Greenville had Cambrian Ridge and Highland Oaks had Dothan, Mobile had the Magnolia Grove. In the year 1999 Montgomery in Capitol Hill was added on. In the year 2005, Ross Bridge and Shoals in Florence were opened. These are the places where golf is really tested on a large scale. Some golf courses are short and one golf course is around 4,700 yards. The longest course is around 8,100.

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a great experience for all. The courses that are found here challenge the capacity of the best golfers across the world. A beginner would surely learn a lot in these courses and he can couple entertainment with sporting activities here in this land of golfing pleasures.

The Marriott at Capitol Hill, the Marriott Shoals Resort and Spa and the Marriott at Grand National are all good golf resorts here in the land of golfing pleasures Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Here eight out of 10 Robert Trent Jones courses are being catered by the resort hotels.

The golf sites are situated very close to an interstate highway I- 65 which is easily accessible from Atlanta.

The golf sites have the Birmingham airport located centrally, and the cities are easily accessible from these golf sites. Golf digest recognized Alabama as the 3rd best golf state some couple of years ago. Today Alabama is thus at the top of the golfing world.

Then there is the Golf Zoo which offers more than 20 best golf courses so you can decide which destination to go to.

Golf is a sport that is so relaxing a sport that the fact that there are such lovely golf courses in this part of the world makes a visit to North America a great pleasure.

These caverns were water formed sometime in the Missisipian era some 260 million years ago. The caverns still have active living formations which are filled with mineral and these droplets form colourful flow stones and structures. Carved from an ocean bed, the fossils of marine activity and shell fragments are seen here in the cavern ceiling and the walls of this fantastic cavern.

The Rickwood Caverns is also popular for other activities. Find the dirt obtained from panning gemstones in the gift shop here.

Alabama national parks also recognize Geocaching as a chance for other outdoor events to be held in their parks.

Then the Rickwood Caverns also has the Rickwood Picnic Area which is a great place with shade trees, lot of shelter, and grills . There are shelters which are available on reservation. These are used for family reunions and family gets together and picnics. There is a hiking trail nearby which is also used as a children’s playground.

Then there is the huge swimming pool which is famous across the world. The pool is open all through the year except for some holidays.

The Rickwood area also has around 13 developed campsites, out of which 9 are totally landscaped and have trailers as also motor homes. All through the day, the campsites are patrolled and the comforts are many with seasonal showers and dump stations etc.

One can access the cave only with the help of a tour guide. Normally tours are given at intervals the entire day. The whole tour takes an hour to complete and goes winding up the passage and through the stairways and the lighted chambers. The entire cavern is traversed except for a few defunct passageways. This cave is believed to be connected other caves from the underground lake at the end of the caverns. Before 1974,divers explored this sea area and saw that that lake goes up to 25 feet back and 65 feet down.

The visitor’s centre is a stone building from where you would descend to a depth of around 175 feet. This lovely cavern tour with its odd shaped formations, the underwater lake and the fragile strip of rock , and the swimming pool make up the formation of landscape in the park. The Frozen Castle and the Bridal Column are two important formations here in the caverns. You could also get to see the blind fish and the cave crayfish if you are lucky enough.

Situated in the lovely surroundings of the Alabama region, the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is a park that is managed by the National park Service. This is also incidentally the place where the last Creek War battle was fought in the year 1814 on March 27. General Andrew Jackson’s Tennessee militia crushed Upper Creek Red Stick with the help of the 39th U.S.Infantry Regiment, the Lower Creek allies, and Cherokee.

This happened on the Tallopoosa River. This historical victory broke the rule of the Creek Nations here.

Around 800 Upper Creeks gave up their life for their homeland. This was a huge loss for all Native Americans who died fighting for the country. The Creeks signed a pact called the Treaty of Fort Jackson wherein they ceded around 23 million acres of Alabama land and also gave Georgia to the U.S.government.

There are many activities that we can do here while in the park. Take the Tour road and enjoy this lovely 3 mile road which is inclusive of a one way loop. It borders along the edge of the battlefield and goes up the bend of the River Tallapoosa. The park is named after this. The speed here is only 15 miles per hour. Rules have to be adhered and recreational activities are not allowed. One can go by foot. More than 557 Creek Warriors and around 49 U.S. soldiers died in the battle.

The Horseshoe Bend National park is an ideal place for hiking. Hike enthusiasts can go up the 2.8 mile long nature walk that goes winding down the Battlefield which lies near the Tohopeka village. This is the venue of the Creek Indian Camp sometime in the 1800s. The trail is quite exciting and adventurous and the rugged terrain ensures you will have the best time of your life. Wear good, comfortable shoes, proper jacket, and a hat and protect yourself with sunscreen. Take water and snacks along. Not a very rigorous trail yet very exciting and adventurous.

The Horseshoe Bend National Park is also a great place for picnic lovers. There are two areas which are ideal picnic locations. The larger picnic area is situated near the Visitor Centre. There are two covered shelters here. Then there is the smaller picnic area which has picnic tables near the Miller Bridge Boat Ramp. But picnicking is not allowed on the battlefield or in the Tohopeka village.

Go boating here and enjoy this launch service with over 15,000 people capacity. Enjoy the launch vessels at the Miller Bridge Boat Ramp and enjoy the winding flow of Tallapoosa River. Canoe lovers would love this place, canoeing down the stream. The rocky bottom and the currents here ensure that you get maximum thrill and excitement. These areas lying near Lake Martin, gives you ideal travel luxury. You cannot however camp here.

While here at the Horseshoe Bend national Park indulge in some fishing activities. Shore fishing is permitted here at the Miller Bridge Boat Ramp. You need an Alabama State Fishing License to do fishing here.

Another activity here is bicycling which is allowed on the paved Tour Road. There is around 12 miles of stretch that you can cycle on. The roads are not paved and they are rugged with lot of mountainous terrain. Ensure that you wear helmets and other kinds of protective gear while you ride the bike.

Enjoy the study of nature here and see the lovely 354 variety of species here and more than 901 types of plant life.

With an amalgamation of the best kind of animals and zoological existence the Birmingham Zoo in the Alabama region of North America is home to around 800 animals and more than 200 species, some of them even endangered ones which span the entire stretch of the six continents.

This zoo is today managed under the patronage of a nonprofit corporation and also belongs to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Today this lovely land of animals situated in Lane Park, is a beautiful 200 acre land which is inclusive of the Birmingham Botanical Garden, which lies in the western terminus of the U. S. Highway.

The Birmingham Zoo had an enclosure of small exotic animals which were kept in a Southside firehouse. Then it went to the Magnolia Park and later to the Avondale Park. The Birmingham Advertising Club donated a lone elephant which it had bought as a novelty from a circus after it was found stranded in the city.

The place grew in size and shape, and then there were plans for many such parks in Birmingham. Later it was decided that the zoo could be on a particular piece of land in a single place. So the land that lay to the south of the Red Mountain was purchased in the year 1889 and 1896 and was a city park in those times. A fish hatcher was built and many pavilions constructed from the Hartselle sandstone that was brought out of the mountain. A natural spring fed the hatchery and it gave stock for the nearby lakes in the whole region. Then gradually the zoo came in place of the park.

The Birmingham Junior Chamber of Commerce supported the cause for a new zoo and created this for Birmingham. Thus started the initiative for setting up the Birmingham Zoo. There was a commission for the zoo that was established. The initial plan was to get the zoo built on 50 acres and the land chosen was the base of the Red Mountain. There was a fixed budget of $250,000 and the plot of land that was a park was then named the Lane Park. It thus started having the zoo as well as the botanical garden nearby.

It was decided that there would be six exhibits in the zoo and these were the “Monkey Island” , the bear moat, the elephant house, the snake pit , the seal pool and the birdhouse. Private donations, in kind donations, charter memberships and many other supporters helped in the contribution to the construction of all these exhibits within the zoo.

Earlier known as the Jimmy Morgan Zoo, the Monkey Island was the first public exhibit . After a lot of trials and efforts, the Birmingham Zoo came into being with the exhibits of koalas, bats, and Komodo dragon and black footed penguins, thus completing the Junior League of Birmingham. In the year 2004, Babec became the first gorilla to have a pacemaker, thus paving the path for the zoo to becoming very unique.

Today with more than 450,000 visitors coming here every year, the Zoo is one of the top tourist destinations of the Alabama travel tours and has beautiful animals like the alligator, the baby giraffe, the camels, flamingos, kangaroos, lorikeet, reptiles, macaw, sea lions, secretary birds, waterfowl, tortoise, pachyderms, pelicans, and many other such unique and intriguing animals.

Today with a lot of expansion and more interesting animals coming here, safari trails are a common form of having a holiday here.

Come to North America and visit Arizona, the land of thrill and adventure. Throw away your insipid blues and enjoy such experiences which would ensure that you have got the best and the most memorable travel pleasures in hand.

Visit the Oak Creek Canyon in Arizona and come back with cherished memories. This river gorge situated in northern Arizona runs along the Mongolian Rim. The whole region lies between the cities of Sedona and Flagstaff. Whilst the Grand Canyon is a much visited spot here and is world famous, the Oak Creek Canyon, is often referred to as the cousin of this great landscape. The scenic beauty and the landscape here is very reminiscent of the Grand Canyon thus giving it this name. The State Route runs through the Oak Creek Canyon . Starting on the northern side it traverses innumerable hairpin bends and then reaches the lower part of the canyon and runs along for around 20 kilometres. Then the highway enters Sedona, the town at the bottom portion of the canyon. While in Arizona, this is the second most popular tourist spot and is visited by many tourists looking out for good adventure.

The Oak Creek Canyon has a length of 19.2 kilometres and is around 1.3 to 4 km broad. The canyon is around 800 to 2000 feet deep. This canyon has predominantly been caused by faulting. Thus there are lot of differences in formation and shape. The western side of the canyon is around 700 feet higher than the eastern side. The average slope of the canyon is around 7,200 feet. The east rim has an elevation of around 6,500 feet.

The Oak Creek is an offshoot of the river Verde. This river runs along the lower portion of the Oak Creek Canyon. This is a perennial water body here and thus making it a great form of nature in this desert land of Arizona. Oak Creek Canyon is largely believed to have been created by this creek.. It is also said that there was a fault which ran along north to south for around 48 km.The stream flowed over this fault leading to the formation of this huge river gorge Oak Creek Canyon.

Whatever the theories are behind the formation of this lovely canyon, one can only say that it is a great sight for the eyes and a must see spot in Arizona. Once it enters Sedona, the Oak Creek has a more free flowing terrain. It wanders around the areas of Page Springs and also Cornville. Then it reaches the place where it meets the River Verde. This is a place situated around 10 km southeast of a place in Arizona called Cottonwood.

Oak Creek Canyon has had its share of mishaps too. The southern part of the Oak Creek Canyon, was hit by a wildfire that was known as the Brins Fire. This happened somewhere near the Slide Rock State Park. The fire spread around an area of around 4,300 acres.

The Coconino National Forest surrounds the Oak Creek Canyon. There are various campgrounds, and picnic spots here all under the supervision of the United States Forest Service. There is a lovely water park in the Slide Rock State Park where activities like fishing, swimming, and exciting rides are popular. There is a great fishable area here where the best varieties of trouts are found.

Come to the land of excitement, fascination and glamour. Come to Chicago. If at any point of time, you wish to have the most memorable travel of your lifetime, then just listen to the call of Chicago. For this Windy City as Chicago is otherwise known as the ideal place to be in if you want to have the most cherishabale experiences.

The third biggest American city, this is situated on the Lake Michigan. It also has the second busiest airport in the entire world. This centre of finance and the hubbub of activity, it has the dubious distinction of being called home by the President of the United States Barack Obama.

The city has an unimaginable magnanimity about it and this magnanimity of the city is beyond limits. The city has so many places that days and days of stay would also not suffice to have had a complete exhaustive tour of the place.

With a city of Chicago’s size, importance, and history you can imagine there’s an endless amount of places to see. But where exactly does one start?

Come to the Sears Tower which was constructed in the year 1973. This was then the Sears Tower was the tallest building in the whole world. Today however, the structure is the tallest in Untied States and it is also the world’s third tallest building. The building offers the best view of the entire city from this place. Situated on the 103rd floor this building has the Sky Deck on this floor. This gives a good vies of the whole city from the top. One can see the states of Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan from the top if it is not windy. The main excitement of visiting the building on a windy day is that you can actually feel the building sway on such a day.

Then go to the Navy Pier which is around 50 acres of lovely grass and gardens. There are parks dotting the place and the children love to come here. This is a historical playground and is on a rectangular patch of land which is projecting out of the Lake Michigan. This pier has been in existence since the year 1916 and the present state of the pier is after the renovation that took place in the year 1916. Go here and enjoy all the recreation activities like the Mc Donald’s Ferris wheel, the Chicago Children’s Museum and of course a 3 D movie experience in the IMAX theater.

There are many stage shows that are organized by the Peps Skyline State which shows all the programs from rock concerts to dance of other forms. Dock Street sees a lot of entertainment during the summer season, while you could do open air ice skating is common during winter h ere.

Then go to the Millennium Park and enjoy the pristine surroundings of the place. It has the East Monroe Drive, The Columbus Driver, Randolph Street and the Michigan Avenue surrounding it. It is a recent construction and has been built in the year 2004. A beautiful construction of the architect Frank Gerry it is a sense of achievement, and also a great parking garage with the largest rooftop garden in the world attached to its popularity.

While in Chicago let your hair down and enjoy other places too.
